Michael Trauer is an Emergency Medicine Consultant at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Michael completed medical school in Melbourne in 2003 and then spent several years working in both urban and remote areas around Australia. In 2010 he moved to the UK to complete a Masters in Viola performance then fell in love with an Estonian violinist and decided to settle in Europe. He joined the NHS in 2012 and completed his specialty training in Emergency Medicine in 2019.

Michael’s main interests are in point-of-care ultrasound, teaching and environmental sustainability. He has a PgC in ultrasound through Teesside University and is completing a Masters. Michael teaches at various courses including SonoUK and is also the director of the Bromley Advanced Ultrasound course. Michael is also passionate about the environment. He tries to use his influence as a medical specialist to influence change and bring about meaningful action on the Climate Emergency. He is involved in groups such as Medact, Extinction Rebellion and The Green Party as well as being a champion of emissions and waste reduction projects within his department and hospital. He is a father of two wonderful girls, cycles everywhere, meditates, plays chess and poker and enjoys oat lattes.
